As we're packing up, the photographer and label creative staff are giving sneak peaks of the photos and discussing timelines. Looks like over the next 2 weeks they'll review the hundreds of pictures taken, edit out the shots that are obviously not useable, and then forward the best, what they'd like SCC to look at for approval. He'll have to do it from China, but we have the technology : ) And then the cover selection dialogue starts.
"Trampoline." The idea here is to capture Steven in the air, possibly grabbing on to a clock hand that would be put in "in post" (electronically afterward) using the white seemless as a background that is replaced. We also had SCC jump a bit with a guitar. We'll see. Very late as we leave, great job by everyone on the shoot.
SCC on "seemless white." We rushed through this but Steven and the crew were such pros... We still 'got it.' Pushing to do one more set up, and then we got to be out of here.
I'm calling it "The Chapman Men." Since Caleb and Will will definitely be part of this next chapter, I asked them to stop by after rehearsals to step in on one set up with their dad. They have earned slots in the band for thier excellent play, great non-entitled attitudes, and hard work ethic. And they are also on the upcoming album, Caleb featured as a step out vocalist and Will as the drummer with drum solo on "Children of God."
The shoot very late, they had to wait a bit and adjust their plans... "no problem Mr. Houser." These guys aren't perfect, but the Chapmans have trained them well and they are outstanding kids..
"Clocks" is what this set up will live on as. Playing with album titles surrounding the theme of moments, the clocks endeavor to symbolize those pieces of time SCC is urging us not to miss. We're always searching for that elusive cover photo that gives you a visual representation of the album's sound, theme, feel, etc in one shot. Possibly the best this was ever done was Speechless. On to the next set up... Very behind schedule.
Very late... "Rusty box" set up. Rushing to get through 4 more set ups and not sure we're going to make it. : )
We're at a park in Nashville, Severe Park for those of you scoring along at home. We breaked for lunch and had a bit of a picnic for a few minutes, but had to keep running and shooting, we're late. It rained for a few minutes, so if when you see the photos and you notice raindrops, you'll know why. :)
"The Elevator." As I blog, Steven is standing in a two man elevator at the church. Last set up here, breaking for lunch at a park where we're hoping for a few set ups, and then back to the photo studio for a few set ups there. We're behind but getting good stuff. : )
"Tan Room" set up in progress. As is the debate on what to title this album. In between set ups we're dialoguing on what to call it.
Steven and I would say we know the neighborhood the title lives in, we just don't which house it is yet. We know it has to do with the theme of the album, the thought of grabbing and not missing the moment that God has given us right now. Fifth set up coming up... We're moving on again.
We're calling this "Chalkboard." We hadn't planned to do this one, but walking into the room for the "Pew on Blue" Steven spotted the chalkboard and floated this idea to the photographer and team. Everyone loved it! And after some debate on what exactly to write for the perfect and most powerful photo... Off we go!
