Impessions of Good Morning America Shoot

Such a profound day, so many amazing truths shared, incredibly hard and dark sadness discussing losing Maria, smiles and laughter remembering Maria. What a rollercoaster.
Topics covered... The day of the accident, the story of the Chapmans and adoption, Memories of Maria, Shaohannahs Hope, "breadcrumbs" Maria and God have left for family, the struggle to find joy again, griefs oddities, verses God has given, the Chapman children each shared powerfully. Caleb about how he now understands better not to lean on God only when there is trouble, but that He is always with us. Will about how Maria fought to the end and how she's inspired him to do the same, Emily on how Maria's many questions endeared her to them and how possibly our questions endear us to our Father, Mary Beth & SCC... wow, too much to say, Robin Roberts and producer Janice are the real deal, wonderful folks on the crew too, anyone we feed Barbaras LOVES it. Exhausted. A lesson in bravery watching this family today. Looks like it will air on August 7th, stay tuned.
So much power. So much recorded. I have no idea how they'll edit all of the incredible stuff they captured down to the 5 or 6 minutes they'll air.
Thanks for your prayers.
Hey,
GMA was at my house back in May 2006. They taped all day for hours and I asked the same thing how can they take my life story and edited it down to a 4-5 minute piece but believe me that is the magic of editing.
They did a wonderful job on my story and I am sure they will do the same on sharing God's Grace on the Chapman's Family.
I attached my video link.

Jim, is there a way that Good Morning America could make the footage available to you? Six minutes or so is not enough! I would love to see as much as I can and as a greiving mom I could benefit from hearing the perspective of another grieving family.
Sometimes this is such a lonely road, simply because the things you face are incomprehensible to those around you. Try as they might, they cannot put themselves in your shoes.
There is nothing simple about grief, I have found. It is like you said, an odd and very complex thing.

Thank you for the summary. So many of us have been praying so hard today, and now we can go to sleep knowing how to pray tonight, tomorrow, and in the coming days. God has been glorified thus far; now we pray for His glory in the editing process. Tonight I pray for rest for all of you and for complete peace in all of your hearts. Know that our prayers will continue.

So brave and courageous of the Chapmans. It feels weird to say "I can't wait to see it". If only under different circumstances. Thank you for sharing this journey of courage and hope with all of us. I feel like this blog is a bit of a big group therapy session (in a good way!)for everyone.........all the comments, so many suffering in their own trials and so many feeling pain over the loss of a little girl we've never met. Yet such a sense of togetherness and healing and hope here.
I pray that the GMA bit will show HOPE to those watching and many people will be saved because of it.

Makes me cry. So many memories, just a
precious loss. So hard to even think about
what they have had to endure. But our
Father is watching and he is with each one
of them and he will not leave them ever.
So sad, but yet so wonderful knowing that
our Father is holding Maria now and loving
her. I can see her sitting on his lap and
smiling. Knowing that this is not the end
and she will be reunited with her loving
family one day and they shall be together
forever and ever. No more goodbyes.
Love to this precious family and it fills
my heart knowing that they know Our Lord and
Savior is with them and hugging them and letting them know their precious little
sweetheart is in his safe arms and she
is well taken care of and laughing and playing in God's garden of Heaven.
Prayers to all and Love to all.

Jim -
Thanks for posting so late in your day ...
We have all been praying and thinking about them all day long. Praying that all of you will sleep tight ... :)

Thank you, Jim, for taking the time to blog tonight and let us know how the day went and how powerfully God answered our prayers.
Praying for restful sleep and peace for all of you.

This is the bittersweet road of God's mysterious plans.
There is a plan...and it is good.

What an honor to be in this extended family, not only the Chapmans and the Housers, but also the family of Christ that is gathering through this blog. I am touched, inspired and encouraged by all of you. Continuing in prayer on the west coast...Suzanne

What a brave family. Thank you for posting. And what mature, wise comments from the children.
Prayers continue for all of you.

Thanks again Jim for the updates! I, too, look forward to seeing this, and seeing how they condense a whole day into 5 or 6 minutes.
Reading Connie's post reminded me of something Steven said Friday night. Speaking about how he knows they will see Maria again someday, but the hard part is just waiting for that someday to get here, and all the heartache they have to deal with between now and then. He even mentioned telling God He could take us all home to be with Him any time now. I'm with him...come quickly, Lord Jesus!! Still praying and asking God to love on the Chapmans, and Grace, and you, Jim. All of us out here in cyberspace love all y'all there in Tn!!
Take care,

Just had to check one last time before going to bed :-) Thanks Jim. You really are amazing! I'm looking forward to the GMA segment. It's already on my calendar (since I don't watch much tv, and especially not in the a.m. it will need to be scheduled, and set on the dvr!).
Lord, may Your presence fill the Chapman home with Your undeniable peace. May they rest in You. Thank you that You order all our days. Thank you that You are with us through the tears, and the joys... You are Lord. You are the Living Water in the dry and weary land where it seems there is none. Please help Steven, Mary Beth, Emily, Caleb, Will, Shaoey, Stevey Joy, Jim, Grace, Dave, Melissa and their families and the rest of the support staff be refreshed and renewed this morning, just as your mercies are new every morning, and great is Your faithfulness! amen.
Thanks again Jim.
millie
ps. it would be powerful(as sumi mentioned) to be able to view the "behind the scenes" that are not included in the segment that will air... (special footage for future release?) just a thought ;-)

Jim, I have followed your blog since May 21. I regain my faith from this family testimony during this difficult time. I now even have time to pray for unfortunate children all over the world since learning about the loss of Maria and how she discovered joy in Chapman family since her adoption. I am very excited about GMA and Larry King Show, but I live in Indonesia and there's no way I could watch the shows fully and on the day they aired. Could you please help me find a way so I can watch those 2 shows?

Melissa in IN said yesterday that the editing process was on her heart, and I have to agree with her. Now is not the time, fellow bloggers, to leave the Chapmans out of your prayers, it's time to add the GMA editors, producers, technical crew, etc to them. Finding a "Catch" is an easy way to garner quick ratings for these folks, and it is unfortunately a part of the industry. Thankfully, morning shows like GMA and others like it look more for emotional stories than shocking ones, which is why I agree (not that it matters much) with the decision to go with a GMA type venue.
The Chapmans and those around them have done their part, and now let's let them take care of themselves, each other, and their beautiful ministry. I ask you, fellow bloggers, to pick up the ball and pray that the awesome efforts and faith of the Chapmans shine through any technical processes and editorial decisions made.
Love you guys
Shannon

I've been praying for the Chapmans and GMA team all day long.
Where I work I don't have to think as I do my job (the fun of retail) and I have given over that time to prayer. The Chapmans have been at the top of the list since May 21st.
I can't imagine how myriad the emotions were today for everyone involved, especially the Chapmans and those close to them. My prayers will continue for this family, friend and the GMA team.

My heart is hurting for this wonderful family. I am sitting here with tears rolling down my face for them. To have to relive the very darkest moments of your life has got to be almost as hard as that day. I pray that GMA will have wisdom as to what is the most important parts to show, and that God will be glorified.I pray many tens of thousands of people will be changed by what this family has endured and by the way Our God has carried them. Also for the world to see how God uses people we do not even know to pray and cry out to Him for others.
God uses many things in our healing process and I pray that this is only the beginning of that process. As always I pray fior them still many times a day and will for a long time to come.God bless all of you and continue to comfort you all. Sue

Jim thanks again for being faithful to us too!!
We´re still praying, in fact, just wanted to share with you that even though I hadn´t read this blog for a few days, yesterday, July 21st, God reminded me of the Chapmans all day!!! in fact, I logged on early today because of this constant reminding from God, and behold! not bad news, but good ones:)
even if we forget or are too busy, He reminds His people to lift up prayers for his children:)
GMA is on the calendar and prayers:)
blessings from our Father to you all.

thank you jim for your update, i, too, like so many others have been praying faithfully for the Chapmans and have truly been inspired by them through their faith during this very difficult time, Marias life has touched so many already and i pray that with this interview her life will be glorified and remembered and that God will be praised even through this tragedy.........praying for the chapmans and all the wonderful people who surround them daily, not only in person, but through prayer as well.

5 or 6 minutes??? How can they? I wish they would extend it. The world needs to hear this story...all of it and all about God and what He has done for them, and what He wants to do for others. Should we write GMA and ask them to take more time??
Posted by: Debbie Santora | July 22, 2008 at 05:03 AM
Thank you, Jim. We will trust that the Lord will oversee those doing the editing and what is included will be exactly what someone needs to hear. Those of us here, I think, are all believers. We want to soak in everything that the Chapmans have to say and share out of our love for them. What we need to remember is that this segment will reach a population of unbelievers. Those 5-6 minutes are all God needs to move in hearts. So, pray for those editors and trust in the God who will use them!
(stepping off my box now...) :-)

I agree with what others have posted here - if there is a way for us to see extended footage I believe it would help many. I pray that GMA puts forth a story that glorifies our God and that He speaks to all thru the Chapman family. I think already that I have been changed by this loss, and changed after hearing not only Steven's music ministering to me but also when I saw him at Lifest I took away alot of new thoughts and lessons from God thru what Steven spoke about there. Like the past posts have said, I could've listened to him speak all night. The music was awesome, but the talking was even better to listen to God's message and what he placed on Steven's heart. I am so thankful for these updates and to be able to come here each day with other Christians. My prayers will continue every day for this family and the extended family - Jim, Grace, etc. We love you all!

Decided that I would repost yesterday's post here, it fits better in the stream of Jim's sharing.
Forgive me bloggy friends if I do what in our household is referred to as a "train wreck"- making a radically quick change of subject. I have been thinking and praying since dinner time for the editing process. Praying for wisdom and God's Spirit to hover in the rooms as decisions are made of what to include and to omit. Praying for the end product, that it be God honoring and that many lives would be impacted for the Kingdom.
It must have been a draining process today. Praying for family connect time and for peace and rest for everyone. Praying that they give the process over to God, who is sovereign, that they would be able to rest and trust, knowing that THEY were obedient to the call that God asked them to undertake. The rest/result is in God's hands.
As always, thank you Jim for glimpses of our dear brothers and sisters during this day, so that we might be better informed in our prayers.
As has been commented in other streams on this blog, I feel a real connection with my brothers and sisters in blogland. I believe it is one of the reasons that the call to pray is so strong, because as Scripture says "Iron sharpens Iron"
Blessings to you all!

Blessings over you all. The sweet Lord brought you to mind just as I knew He would.
May God give them rest when needed and strength when they are tired.
Thank you Jim.

Thank you Jim for sharing this recap. My thoughts and prayers have been on the Chapman Family all day. As an outsider, I have longed to know how they are doing...how they are getting through each day...I've longed to know as much about Maria as they are willing to share. Maria has not left my thoughts since that horrible May day but from the stories and pictures on this blog I feel like I have gotten to know her a little bit. The words that come to mind are joyful...happy...fun...loved...a truly special little girl. Looking forward to the show...I will continue to pray for the Chapmans and will hold a special place in my heart for them...always.

I check SCC website first thing every morning for the latest news and updates. It has become apart of my morning routine right before devotional and alone time with God, so thank you for keeping us informed and helping us feel a little closer and more connected. May more lives be directed to Christ through the openness of the Chapman family. Thank you all for being honest about your feelings, struggles and pain. Thank you for standing strong in the faith even when you haven't felt like standing.

Thank you for this update. I appreciate it and seem to find myself praying for the Chapman's throughout each day. Your updates serve as reminders to pray and that God is working mightily even in this horrendous situation.
I did cry as I too read it. What a heartbreaking situation to be in and what willing disciples of Christ the Chapmans are to go where God leads them and be willing to share their heartache, but also their heartache healer with the world! I love them dearly and continue to pray.
I agree with everyone else, it's important that now we pray for the editing team, producers, etc. So I'm adding them to the list!

Hi! Um, just wondering, for those that won't be able to catch them on the air, will you be posting their interviews on this website?
Posted by: H | July 22, 2008 at 06:14 AM
Good morning, Mr. Houser. Thanks for all of your postings and the updates on the road you are walking with the Chapmans. I am so glad that the interview was conducted by Robin Roberts. She seems like a warm and caring person and can be sensitive to the heartache of the family.
I heard the new version of "Yours" this morning on K-LOVE. I can't put into words what I felt. John Rivers seemed pretty choked up, as well. Praise the Lord for His faithfulness and His strength and help in times of trouble.

Praying that God pours out his blessings on all of you in the coming weeks.

I was so excited when I saw info about the United Tour. Please tell me they're coming to the Dallas area. SCC & MWS are my 2 favorite singers ever.

Karen,
At the concert on Fri. night, SCC mentioned his good friend, John Rivers, and how they had shared some grieving time earlier in the day. I can't recall his exact words, but I got the idea they are friends.
Hearing SCC sing that last verse was a moment, indeed.

Thanks for the updates Jim...your desire to keep us informed and your obvious love for the Chapman family and their minstry are overwhelming. I thank GOD for what He is doing through you to touch the lives of "bloggers" all around the world. This is my first time to be involved in a blogging atmosphere and I am afraid you have me spoiled. :)
I pray the GMA experience, while obviously a tough event, was awe-inspiring for those in and around the house the yesterday. I also ask for GOD'S hand to touch the entire editing process so that a mighty work will be done in the hearts of believers and non-believers throughout the GMA audience when the final show airs. GOD Bless!
Hope to see you in Paducah in October (21st? That's the rumor...a GOD-icidence!)

I'm sure the GMA staff was very professional and handled the family with care. I am proud of the whole Chapman family for doing this and believe it is something they needed to do for one more step closer to healing. God bless all the staff for their continued support of them and for just being there! Love and prayers!

it's awesome that they have shared thier faith through this trial. I know that God is the only source of help- there is nothing is this world that can ever satisfy the longing to have someone back with you, but through God we can have faith that this life is not the end... Losing my mom, really opened my eyes to see how real Heaven is, and just that God uses everything for His glory-and always gives us what we need to make it from day to day...

Continuing to pray with confidence. God's embrace surrounds this family on every side. I fully expect that the Lord will do with these few minutes of coverage just as He did with two fish and five loaves, many will be spiritually fed, multitudes will be refreshed.
Sending love and prayers for replenishment to all the Chapmans and those who are there supporting them.

When Steven and Mary Beth say "BLESSED BE HIS NAME." they mean it!!!!! I pray you will have all have time to get refreshed after this huge time! Amen! I didn't think it was possible, but I prayed more yesterday than ever before. I'm so glad that everybody got through the interview. I know that the world is going to see this wonderful family really doing The Walk, and the gospel will be preached to a whole new audience.
Jim, I can't say enough how proud I am of Will. God has just placed a burden on my heart for him. What incredible courage it took for him to stand up in front of millions and talk about the accident- and a true example of the grace and power of God. His testimony from this point on will be truly amazing! Again, the world will see a family clinging to Jesus and proclaiming His grace and forgiveness.
Jim, would you please give Will a hug for me- although I am a stranger to all of you, you have made me feel like family. Will's courage is truly inspiring. What an incredible young man!

I would encourage everyone to email GMA, thank them for taking the time to share this story and encourage them to share as much as possible. If this community that loves and respects the Chapmans overwhelms GMA, perhaps they will see the importance of giving more time to them!
Continued prayers go forth on behalf of this beautiful family!

Father thank you and we praise you through the storms of life. That in weakness your word gives comfort of truth and your word never lies. That I/we can do all things through Christ even give to the world a testimony. ln the mist of the storm we are who you say we are, strength to press on our storms will not overflow as long as we lean on your truth, the power the treasure in our earthen vessel! Isa 43:2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. 43:3 For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Savior Will/ and family the world can see His grace is sufficient, the pain that tears at your very being of who God created you to be. I praise God that you can in his strength give praise to the God who allowed you and your family in this season of your lives . Father thank you for this family that desires for the world to see the grace of God for the strenght to continue to walk from strength to strength in this journey of life. Leaning on you LORD, pressing on, walking in their purpose for you. My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2Co 12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong Lord troubled on every side perplexed but not not driven to despair, struck down, but not destroyed .Continuing to praise you in this storm. Thank you Father In Jesus name. From glory to glory, walk on for Jesus Praising him in the storm.http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uHdcyue0bSw&feature=related

We serve an almighty God. I to am wondering if there would be a way for us to see the whole thing somehow after it airs. I don't know how they could get all that down to 6 mins. I cannot wait to see this show. I do not watch any morning shows, but I will be watching this one.
As far as the editing, I just believe that the editors are being directed by God and He will say what needs to be said. As everyone else on this blog, we would love to hear the whole interview, but we will settle for the 5-6 minutes in August.
God is good and I believe that He will get ALL the glory!
We love you all and contiue to lift you up. Chapmans, you guys are an inspiration to so many, including myself. Your love for each other and faithfulness to our Lord and Savior is a great testimony. Wow I can't even begin to imagine!
It's funny how you look at someone who is going through that and ask yourself how can they make it through and then you think to yourself i am not that strong of a person....And then that still small voice in your heart goes,,"it wasn't them at all it was me...and you have made it through plenty of your own things! Things that people said the same things about you!"
So though I am in Awe I know that "His strength is perfect when our strength is gone. He'll carry us when we can't carry on.."
That song helped me so much when I was a teen and found out I would never drive because I had been re diagnosed with Macular Degeneration one month before I turned 16. I was the only kid in the US with it at the time. I thought my life was over...3 years later I was in China teaching ESL at a University ..10 days after I returned home and went to college where I met my husband and no we are pursuing ministry with 3 small kids. I love how God is there when we need HIM and clearing the Chapmans know that more now than ever before.
It's so amazing to see them living out the things that SCC wrote/sang about on "THIS MOMENT" CD. You can surely see his/their faith evidenced in so many ways! It's one thing to sing those songs when life is good. It's completely different when those things namely the song "Yours" is being played out in your life!
We are so impressed with the faithfulnessof this family!
Thank you so much for sharing!

Mary - in reference to what you said in your comment about Steven's songs..."It's one thing to sing those songs when life is good. It's completely different when those things namely the song "Yours" is being played out in your life!" ... In Euless on Friday night, Steven was kind of talking about the same thing. He was talking about (as others have mentioned) how his songs have taken on a whole new meaning now, and said, "I never meant for these songs to be THAT true!" :-) Isn't it amazing how God sang these songs through Steven ahead of time, preparing them to minister back to him and his family in their own time of need. God is awesome.

Isn't Aug. 7 the same day that they'll be on Larry King? What a tremendous day for God's Kingdom that will be!
Always praying...
Love you!

Thanks for sharing, Jim. It's amazing to see how God is working in their lives, even in that interview process. It is their strength and hope that is getting me through my own ordeal right now. They seem to have enough to go around and watching them rise to the occasion spurs me on to fight through the physical pain one more day. Again, thanks for sharing...

Jim,
Wow, that was indeed a sad, dark and exhausting day to relive the accident and loss of Maria. Our hearts too are still broken for the Chapman family that this interview has to take place and would rather be a different circumstances. Since the tragic accident on May 21st, Maria's big smiles are in our minds as we remember all her photos in MB's blog.
The Chapman is very brave to share the sad story and yet inspiring to know that they shared the Hope of eternity. Knowing too that this hope will reunite them with little Maria some day - who now resides with our Heavenly Father's "Big House". They are truly obedient to God's calling as they use this tragedy for His glory and that is to fight the good fight until they finish the course.
May each of the Chapman, their friends and family surrounding them find the Lord's daily Consuming Love and His Power as they follow His leading in obedience.
As everyone else mentioned above, we too have been praying for the GMA Robin's heart and her crew prior to yesterday's interview and also for Larry King's up coming interview. Our Lord Jesus prevails and what ends up on the air is exactly what our Lord wants on the air for people to hear the Gospel and it's IS TRUE!
Sure enough the GMA crew saw the family's testimony from SCC's song "Definition of Me" and which identifies the Chapman's scars with Jesus!
With Much Love and prayers.
“Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.” Psalm 71:17

Wow, I have been thinking about the Chapman's a lot lately...I am glad to know that they are doing somewhat better...I will continue to pray for them through this terrible loss. I was looking at Emily's blog...a picture of her with her engagement ring on...then I realized it was May 21. If she had only known what a horrific day that was going to be...wow.

I just emailed Good Morning America, via the link above. Let's get the message out there that this story needs to be told in full, not just a 4 to 5 minute condensed version. There is too much pain and suffering in the world today and through their own pain and suffering the Chapman family is a bright ray of hope and faith.
Prayers for all the Chapmans, their friends and extended family. Special thanks to Jim for sharing the story and the message. You are making a difference in this world, what an amazing gift from God.
God Bless.

Jim,
Just a thought here...I don't know if it's possible but is there any way that after the segment airs on GMA that there would be a way for all of us to purchase a copy of the whole days interviews with the proceeds going to Maria's Miracle Fund or Shaohannah's Hope? I'm sure ALOT of us would gladly buy a copy and it would be for a great cause.
Keeping you all in my thoughts ...

Erin,
I watched your piece. It was very moving and they did do a good job. My prayers are with you.
Posted by: BeachNanny | July 22, 2008 at 10:56 AM
The prayer is that the producers at GMA relate the essence of the story and not a pre-determined storyline.
When you have hours of interview, a story can be pulled out of that information that doesn't relate to the original story.
Pray God's presence be felt during the edit sessions and Robin's voiceover sessions as she gives the narrative. Pray for the Producer Janice, that she is not influenced by those trying to sensationalize the story in improper ways.
God can be glorified in this if his grace and redemption are shown through the story.
The Chapmans are in our thoughts and prayers.

Jim, I know you probably hear it from many people, many times a day but you are such a Godsend. I find it incredibly selfless and kind of you to continue keeping all of us up to date on the Chapman family while you're still grieving, yet trying to keep on keeping on. Thank you so much for being the blessing that you are. If not here on Earth, one day I'll hug you for it in Heaven. :)

Jking; thanks for bringing up the link.
Jim; you're awesome. Thanks for showing us what a real man is.
Grace; thanks. Just thanks.
Caleb; been praying for you. You've been on my heart these past few days, and I don't need to know why.
Will; it's okay to be happy. Laughter is one of the coolest free things we get here on Earth.
Mary Beth; shine on.
Sorry for the long post, but I felt led.

I just wanted to pass this on...I work for a SMALL non-profit in the Dallas area. We are a faith based company that has 3 sections: adoptions, grief, and counseling. We do grief groups 2 times a month for children and their parents. I work for the counseling department, but everytime I facilitate a grief group, I think of you guys. We are praying for your family and we understand the process (different processes) that everyone is going through. Check out our web site and info about us. I know that adoption is something close to their hearts and unfortunantly now, too, is grief support and counseling. Thanks for keeping us updated with your blog.

So tough to imagine all that emotional and inspiring footage on the cutting room floor! 5 or 6 minutes isn't enough time for Chapmans! I pray everyone is getting some rest after such an impactful day.
BTW Jim, I love the camera in the sink shot.
.....STILL emotional about the Euless concert....

Jim thanks so much for taking the time to give us updates. With all your responsibilities to your family and the Chapman's - I know you are busy - so thanks for filling us in.
I can not wait to see the coverage on GMA. I am praying for the editing team - that what God wants to be aired will be - and that it will touch many - to the point where they will long to know Christ.
Praising God for this family's strength, courage and faith. What an example they are to all of us. Still praying...

Hey Valerie--I'm in Lubbock too! Don't you think we could fill up the United SPirit Arena if SCC and MWS would only come? We did when Steven, Casting Crowns and Chris Tomlin came! We could sooooo make it happen! :)

God directed every inch of yesterday's interview, leading compassionate people like Robin and Janice to be the ones from GMA who were directly involved. I have continued to pray that those involved in the editing and creating of the final results will be guided with love, integrity, and with the whisper of God in their ears (even if they don't recognize it!).
For some reason I am compelled to pray for Emily and her fiance today. Thank You God that they have each others' love to lean on. Lead them to joy as they prepare for their wedding. Thank You for the blessing that they are, and for the selfless work that they do in Your name. Amen.

I think its amazing how we see our prayers being answered right in front of us!!
We have been praying for strength and for courage during this-- look what happened yesterday. The Chapmans stepped out with extreme courage and bravery and took something soo difficult on.
We have been praying for each Chapman specifically--look at the things that Steven, Mary Beth, Emily, Will, and Caleb were able to talk about during the time spent with GMA yesterday.
We have been praying that the Lord's name would be glorified and lifted up in such a real way during this whole process. Thousands will be able to see and hear, through this interview, about a God who is never changing and a love that stretches far beyond anything we could even ask for.
WOW!! I love seeing major answers to prayer come about! :) I hope that its an encouragement to all of you-- and that it is an extra push to keep on praying for this beautiful family!

Kristen - YES! I totally agree, we could definitely sell out the United Spirit Arena! And I think, what a better venue for the UNITED tour?! :) I don't see it on the schedule yet...maybe there's a chance it will be one of those places the website says is to be added later (hoping!).

A dear friend posted this short devotional today on her blog. I of course immediately thought of Steven and family...
----------
For how is one to appreciate the contrast of light's dawning hope if his soul has never trembled through the dark hours of a nightmare's watch? Or how can one prove God's faithfulness if he never is granted the privilege of wandering through a barren desert, where only pools of Christ's Presence can possibly provide survival? It is a great honor to be apportioned pain. Christ Himself, though God incarnate, learned obedience through what He suffered. Dare we assume that we as His children can be taught by any wiser or kinder instructor than the severity of unwanted pain? We dare not steel ourselves against our trials, running away from the fires where our pruned branches crumble to ashes. For if we escape those flames, we will risk barrenness of soul and will miss out on the beauty that only is born through the ashes of yesterday's grief. ... Cammie Van Rooy

Jim,
Just wondering if somehow all the footage might not also be edited in a full-length format, which undoubtedly would be a comfort to others. Perhaps it could be available for a donation to Maria's Miracle Fund. I know that other hurting families who are asking big questions and reeling to find a "new normal" would likely be helped by hearing the Chapmans' own story. There are so many of us who care for this family, and will continue to pray for them for a long time to come!
Posted by: Julie | July 22, 2008 at 07:28 PM
Jim,
I would like to say thank you for continually keeping us updated on what is going on. I cannot wait for all these interviews! I am sure with all 3, we will get to really see how the family is truly doing.
Posted by: BeachNanny | July 22, 2008 at 07:33 PM
6 minutes? Wow. I wish that they would use all that for a 20/20 or Dateline kind of thing (I know, I am getting my networks screwed up).
I bet they would rock the house with ratings if they did that, so I wonder why they don't?
As always, I love all of you and you are all in my prayers. Glad that this milestone is behind all of you and that somehow it brought even a teeny bit of healing.

On last Friday, my Chris was driving home. He heard one of Steven's songs, then turned off the radio. Driving about 25 minutes home here on the Front Range in Colorado, Chris began to pray, "Lord, if it's possible, let me just take a bit of their grief, if it would help them." And he sobbed so much, his shirt was soaked through with tears. He had to pull over. I just wanted you guys to know that we dearly love you and are praying for you. We're not going to forget to pray every single day.
For fun: I just posted a fun post about when my Chris and I first met 18 years ago yesterday and the songs we listened to then...and SCC? a mullet, as well as Bob Carlilse, Bryan Duncan and Mark Farner.

In regards to the upcoming interview with Steven Curtis Chapman & family. Many of us communicating & praying for them on his website believe that the entire interview be seen. We want to see as much as possible about this inspiring family. So many people are hurting, lost, and overwhelmed by tragedy. So many need to hear the message of our Savior. It is so important. Thanks Jim! You are such a blessing to the Chapmans, and to us. It is so encouraging to read your posts.
And to read all of your comments, blog family :)
I would love to hear everything the Chapmans said in the interview, but I know that God will use whatever time that He has to bring ppl to Him...so much can be accomplished in 5 or 6 minutes. He IS God. He can do anything :) I am praying for the editors and the ppl working on the story too, but whatever is meant to be shown will be. I will definitely be watching on the 7th.
I know that it was a really hard day yesterday for all of you, so I'm hoping that you got some rest, and that today was more peaceful. May God grant each one of you the peace, happiness, joy and laughter that you deserve. Take care of yourselves. As some of you, for some reason, I felt compelled to write Good Morning America.
"To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing out of interest in your upcoming interview with Steven Curtis Chapman and his family over the death of his 5-year-old daughter Maria. I am writing in hopes of the full story of God's power being revealed through your programming. In order for this to truly happen, I think you need to include the entire interview. My wife and I lost our own daughter just 10 short months ago. At age 2, she was diagnosed with cancer. However, she fought her bravest fight until it became too difficult. She was only 4. I know the pain of losing a child. I also know the hope that comes with hearing other people's messages about how they coped with losing their own children. A couple days after laying our sweet Gracie into the arms of Jesus, I was watching a religious program on television. It helped me. I firmly believe that this entire interview with the Chapman family will help many people out there as well. It's easy to talk the talk, but the Chapman family walks the walk. You have a great opportunity to impact people, and all it takes is just a few extra minutes of your programming time. If you never read this message, I understand. You are busy, and it's just a message. However, it's not just a message to me. It's not just a message to millions of others out there like me. It's a hope that comes with knowing Jesus Christ and wanting the world to hear some of His greatest witnesses speak the Truth. God bless."
So? ;)

This song has been going through my mind since Sunday as I think of the Chapmans. Its a powerful song we've been singing in church lately and I wanted to share it with y'all.
"You Are God Alone"
You are not a god
Created by human hands
You are not a god
Dependant on any mortal man
You are not a god
In need of anything we can give
By Your plan, that's just the way it is
Chorus:
You are God alone
From before time began
You were on Your throne
You are God alone
And right now
In the good times and bad
You are on Your throne
You are God alone
You're the only God
Whose power none can contend
You're the only God
Whose name and praise will never end
You're the only God
Who's worthy of everything we can give
You are God
And that's just the way it is
BRIDGE:
Unchangeable
Unshakable
Unstoppable
That's what You are
Unchangeable
Unshakable
Unstoppable
That's what You are

Beautiful song Suzanne, thanks for sharing. Do you know who wrote it? I might have to share it with my Music Director :) A song that I clung to in 2001 when I wrestled with God over his sovereignty (SP!) was "You are Still Holy" by Kim Hill. It really helped me take what I always said I believed and truely believe it in my heart.
Holy, You are still holy
Even when the darkness surrounds my life
Sovereign, You are still sovereign
Even when confusion has blinded my eyes
Lord, I don't deserve Your kind affection
When my unbelief has kept me from Your touch
I want my life to be a pure reflection
Of Your love
And so I come into Your chamber
And I dance at Your feet, Lord
You are my Saviour
And I'm at Your mercy
All that has been in my life
Up 'til now
It belongs to You
You are still holy
Holy, You are still holy
Even though I don't understand Your ways
Sovereign, You will be sovereign
Even when my circumstances don't change
Lord, I don't deserve your tender patience
When my unbelief has kept me from Your truth
I want my life to be a sweet devotion
To You
And so I come into Your chamber
And I dance at Your feet, Lord
You are my Saviour
And I'm at Your mercy
All that has been in my life
Up 'til now
It belongs to You
I belong to You
And so I come into Your chamber
And I dance at Your feet
You are my Saviour
And I'm at Your mercy
All that has been in my life
Up 'til now
It belongs to You
I belong to You
You are still holy
You are still sovereign
You are still holy, Lord
You are still righteous
You are all-knowing
You are still holy

I agree with several of these people in saying that the entire interview must have been amazing and would love to see it. Jim, if you could get the entire interview and post it here on on the main site, that would be so cool. I know that seeing so little of the interview won't tell the entire story or show just how much Maria touched their lives and the lives of others. Thank you and God bless.

I'm really not sure who to direct this message to. I read this online this evening and felt so horrible for this family. They have opened their hearts and home in order to adopt and care for these 12 children and now they are not going to have a home to raise them in. Here is part of the article that I copied. RENO, Nev. (AP) - The mortgage meltdown has claimed some young victims: a Reno-area couple and their 12 adopted children, ages 3 to 16.
Dave and Kathy Bain of Spanish Springs are facing foreclosure on their 3,400-square-foot home after falling behind on payments.

Thank you for posting the updates as always.
I wanted to share a poem with you and hope you find it somewhat inspirational. My dear friend's son Ben, age 5, is currently fighting a very rare and aggressive form of brain/central nervous system cancer and we're praying for a miraculous recovery. They have already endured the passing of their 18 month old daughter due to a cardiac condition related to Down's syndrome, and have 3 other boys at home . We know Ben through our Korean adoption group. Anyway, my friend posted this poem today as she mourns the death of her friend who passed today, and it was also in the church bulletin at her daughter's memorial service, and I thought it was really beautiful.
"I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads his white sails to the ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says: “She is gone!”
“Gone where?”
Gone from my sight. That is all.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says: “She is gone!” there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout:
“Here she comes!”
And that is dying."
God bless all of you and our prayers fervently continue.

We are constantly praying for the Chapman family and their circle of friends giving daily encouragement. We are also remembering little Maria's Big legacy in her 5 short years of life - to be shared to a lot people especially kids. Her short yet Big and Full life is a great opportunity to share the gospel.
Hopefully, SCC, his boys and the band will "Rock" Wheaton, IL for tonight's concert. A great ministry to harvest souls for eternity.
With Much Love and Prayers.

All,
I am going to the concert tonight in Chicago. I have had the Chapman family on my mind everyday since the tragic loss. I don't know how Steven and the boys are able to stand up on the stage so soon and perform such great concerts, I watched video on youtube and ball every time. I think and pray for this family constantly. If the tables were turned, I am not so sure I would be able to get up in front of so many people and praise God. This has been an eye opening experience for me. God and the Chapman family are showing me and teaching me so much about my faith and my walk with Christ.
Just needed to get this out. I have been checking the site daily but never felt the courage to post.

Jen and others who are going to the concert tonight - We will be praying for the Chapmans, band, you and those there who don't know Christ, that God will be glorified through what is said and sung, and lives will be changed. I feel as others have expressed here that many lives have already been changed - I know mine has - and we continue to pray for the Chapmans and all of those impacted by Maria's life. Thanks, Jim, for your efforts to keep us involved by your news blasts. We are praying for you and Dave tonight, too! We serve a Great Big God and know He has a plan for all of this - we just have to be patient to see the full picture one day!

Hi Jim,
I have been praying for this family and will continue. Like I have said before Steven Curtis Chapman has been my favorite since I was little. They have an such amazing impact on my life by the way they live their life and interact as family. I can't wait to see this show. I heard this song last night and thought of how the Chapmans are experiencing this same thing as in the lyrics to this song by Michael W. Smith. The person that SCC is touring with this fall as we all know.
I Hear Leesha-MWS
Seems like it was only yesterday
She was living here
Yes, she was living here
Lord, knows why He's taken her away
It isn't very clear, no it isn't very clear
Into every life a rain must fall
And losing one you have is like a storm
But storms are passing
(chorus)
I hear Leesha
Singing in Heaven tonight
And in between the saddness
I hear Leesha
Telling me that she's alright
Life goes on even after life
That's what I believe
Yea, that's what I believe
Leesha's gone but she will still survive
In a memory that I'm keeping here with me
Silencing the voice of mortal tragedy
Listening to whispers of the soul
All is peaceful
(chorus)

HaHa - Suzanne, I'm with you! I'm going through a bit of blog withdrawl myself. Guess we'll just have to talk amongst ourselves until Jim returns! :-)
I thought today about the scene in the movie Sleepless in Seattle when Tom Hanks' character, just after his wife has passed away, is talking on the phone to the radio show psychologist. She asks him, "So what are you going to do now?" He answers her, "I'm going to get up in the morning and breathe in and out all day long. Then after a while I won't have to remind myself to get out of bed every morning and breathe in and out..."
Jesus, I pray that You who ARE our very peace would envelope Steven, Will, Caleb, and their band as they return to the stage tonight, as well as MaryBeth and the girls who are at home waiting for them. I pray that as they "breathe it in and breathe it out", they will listen to YOUR heartbeat. God, please show them the way and give them the courage to once again find the "wonder in the here and now". I know getting out there on that stage must be so difficult - carrying on day after day at home is so difficult - and yet they have said they do it out of obedience, because they trust You, they love You, and they believe You. Honor their trust and obedience, God. Bind up their broken hearts - take their spirit of heaviness tonight and give them the garment of praise.

Just a note to say that I'm thinking of all the Chapmans, Jim, Dave et al and praying for tonight's concert.
The Lord has continued to bring Steven and the whole family to mind strongly many times this week. So, I'll keep praying.

Amen Valerie, I love that we can pray in one accord here. Praying for the Concert tonight and for MB and the girlies at home. I posted a LONG time ago that the best advice I recieved while grieving was to ride the waves that would inevitiably (SP!) come, because if you try to dig in and stand firm you'll get knocked down. So here is to riding some waves as the family "dives" into the "new normal"

melody, thanks for sharing. I got a lump in my throat reading (and hearing in my memory) that song. It still constantly amazes me that songs written a decade ago (or sometimes more) can take on a whole new/fresh meaning when applied to what we are feeling now. God is so good. He knew the songs/words that would be needed long before we did.

When people ask how I am so brave to speak on national TV like GMA, Montel twice, appear in magazine/newspaper articles, and have been in talks with many producers from Oprah before..hmm I think I will be sending both the producer from GMA that did my story, and producers from Oprah an email about the Chapman's. When people ask how I was able to forgive I go into great detail about that in my second book set to be released in Spring of 09 and much of it has to do with the man upstairs who has been my rock never leaving my side through it all the same way he is right there with the Chapman's. I talk in great detail on turning anger and hate into empathy and forgiveness towards the evil done to me as a child. It is my believe in every tragic situation something incredible can come out of it. For me I found a voice and a silent epidemic that no one wants to talk about. So I now fly the country speaking in front of thousands at national conferences with no shame. I have been to the great state of Texas time and time again to speak, I am headed to Cape Cod in September and South Carolina to speak at two other conferences.
The same way I turned this painful event into something positive on forgiveness and God's grace on my life is my same believe the Chapman's tragedy will open so many lost souls and make them become believers. So many more people will make it to Heaven one day because of this tragedy. I have talk to enough producers in my life to know it is rare to get them to air on national television religious stuff. So these media appearances by the Chapman's is going to do wonders. Just wait and see. There will be people that did not even know of Steven Curtis Chapman and many nonbelievers who will catch the Chapman Family on GMA, Larry King, People Magazine, and so many of them will come here after that for the first time and Thank the Chapman's for helping them find the Lord.
God's Grace will shine through!

Dear Chapman family loved ones,
Your family's tenderness toward the heart of God is something which has always inspired our family. Every album you have done, has shown the anointing of the Psalmist, David upon it.
Just like, David, your family has experienced the loss of a child. Truly, you can also say of your child, as David did, "I go to him."
Many more lives in this world will see and hear of God's tender mercies, as He gives you the strength to be who you are in Him, before the watching World.
Although your grief is truly your's alone; the body of Christi--who are your extended family--prays, and KNOWS Our Heavenly Father's arms are not too short to comfort you who are his servants. YOU, to whom He has given His Son's life so He could call you not his servants, but his family.
From a family who has always been blessed by God's touch on your lives. May He continue to touch each of you, the way only He can.
